Beaches of Lithuania

(4.1) marks: 8

The beaches of Lithuanian resorts make up one of the reasons why the tourists prefer to have rest on the sea of this country. Lithuanian Neringa and Palanga claim to be the leaders of the Baltic tourism. Over the past few years the amount of holidaymakers has almost doubled.

So what makes these beaches so popular among the tourists? First of all its cleanness. The resort zone of Neringa is considered to be the model of beach rest. The beaches of such villages as Nida and Juodkrante were highly ranked by international experts. Nowadays each of these towns has got the Blue flag for its coastal territories which is the world model proving the highest level of authorities taking care of the environment and the cleanness of the beaches.

The main advantage of the beaches in Neringa is that some of them are situated at the foot of famous dunes of the Curonian Spit and also not far from the nests of some rare birds, that’s why except for the pleasure the tourists have an opportunity to observe the beauty of the nature.

The beaches of Palanga win Neringa only in the amount of holidaymakers. There are more tourists in Palanga than in quiet Neringa and that’s why it’s quiet difficult to find an accommodation here. But still the search of the place to live shouldn’t become a serious problem. The beaches in Palanga stretch for 20 kilometers along the seaside. The most popular beach areas in Palanga as a rule are situated near the town pier. But if you move two or three kilometers from the pier you can find quiet a secluded place somewhere in coastal dunes.

Smiltine along the Curonian spit is worthy mentioning as one of the places that is not very popular among the tourists. The ferries from Klaipeda come here and it makes this town famous. But the majority of holidaymakers don’t stay here for long; they go further to Nida and other villages in the center of the Curonian Spit. But still the beaches in Smiltine have success first of all among the residents of Klaipeda and numerous yachtsmen. The oldest yacht club in Lithuania is situated in this town.
