Sport vacation

Sport vacation in Lithuania is one of the priorities of tourism development in this country. Active rest for Lithuanians is not a new trend it’s their usual way of life. If an average statistical American doesn’t imagine his life without a car then a Lithuanian resident cannot do without a bike.

In general there are at least two kinds of sport in the country which can be considered the national ones and it is basketball and cycling. So if Lithuanian basketball is famous first of all due to its professionals of a well known club “Zhalgiris” from Kaunas and a national team then cycling in Lithuania is common both for amateurs and professionals. Practically every resident of the country is fond of cycling in Lithuania. You can meet parking places for bikes in Lithuanian cities everywhere from bars and shops to maternity hospitals and police stations.

It’s not surprising that any resort in Lithuania today offers bikes and special cycling tours. A cycling tour along Lithuania today is, perhaps, the main kind of sport tourism in this country. One of the most popular routes goes along the Baltic seaside. It сonnects Palanga, Klaipeda and Neringa. The route goes along several picturesque places in Lithuania among which there’s a Park Padzhurio in the suburbs of Palanga and a National park Kurshskaya Kosa. Several major tour agencies in Lithuania offer the organization of such tours and also many other ones.

Except for cycling and basketball dozens of other kinds of active sport are popular in Lithuania. Paintball is a good example. This sport being forbidden in many countries is a success in Lithuania. In some big cities (Vilnius, Kaunas, Shaulai) there are several clubs where different competitions are organized.

We cannot omit horse riding here. Lithuania today is the leader in horse breeding in Eastern Europe that is why horse riding is at a high level in this country. So many guests are offered horse excursions and a horse riding training as an additional entertainment.
Very spectacular competitions are regularly organized in the suburbs of Trakai. A National sports and sanitary center of the city receives one of the most well-known oared regattas in the Baltic States – Sprint LIKF. But the theme of water sport isn’t closed here. Not a big resort village Nida (Neringa) is famous not only for its dunes and beaches. More than half a century one of the most representative yacht regattas in Lithuania is held along the Kurshsky bay.
