Landscapes and protected sites

At Pipiriškės, the focus is on the forms of this landscape: the geomorphological reserve covers 519 hectares and is a good place to view the landscapes of Elektrėnai Municipality and explore a complex of glacial marginal formations typical of the Dzūkija Upland. Abromiškės Manor Park is another protected site: it was placed under state protection in 1985 and designated a natural monument in 1986.

The observation tower near Ausiutiškės offers views over the Neris Valley. You can also see the start of the Velniakampis Loop of the Neris, described as the largest loop on the 510-kilometre-long river. Anyone interested in the history of the Earth can explore the landscape from a different perspective at the Grabijolai outcrop: the exposed layers are about 100 metres long and about 6 metres high, and fossils can be found in them.

Trails and outdoor activities

The Grabijolai educational trail is described as a “wild” footpath from the ethnographic linear village of Grabijolų kaimas to the Alkai Oak. The oak is considered the thickest in Neris Regional Park. Along the way, you pass the Saldus Stream, the Uolkas or Alkai hills, the foundations of the former Zapalina Manor, Paalkiai Hill, and the Neris with its mythological stones. This makes the trail especially interesting for visitors who want to experience nature alongside the area’s traditional local associations.

For a cycling trip, “Around Elektrėnai” lists both the route length and the time required: 6.5 hours are allocated for 14 kilometres. Ninety percent of the route is on asphalt, and 10 percent is on forest paths. When planning your day, take the stated duration at face value rather than estimating it from the distance alone.

In Elektrėnai, “Vaikų pasaulis” offers walking and cycling paths, two skate or scooter parks, an amphitheatre and areas with outdoor fitness equipment. The site also offers opportunities to relax in nature and enjoy views of the Elektrėnai Lagoon. Elektrėnai Swimming Pool has a 50-metre sports pool with eight lanes. The building includes a sauna complex with a Finnish sauna and a steam sauna, as well as a heated pool with a cascade and underwater currents. As the availability of individual facilities may change, check which areas are accessible to you before your visit.

There are also various options on and by the water: guided boat trips are offered on the Elektrėnai Lagoon. The beach is popular with windsurfers because stronger and more consistent winds blow there than on other lakes; other water sports and leisure activities are popular there too. The floating pontoon pier in Elektrėnai is a place to relax and enjoy nature, noted for its design and lighting. The “AWAY” wakeboard park is located at Rungos g. 13 in Elektrėnai.

If you prefer activities on ice, you can skate at Elektrėnai Ice Arena or watch ice hockey and figure skating competitions. Check the schedule in advance if you want to attend a competition. At Elektrėnai Disc Golf Park, the aim is to throw a flying disc from the starting point into the basket in as few throws as possible. Each subsequent throw is made from where the previous one landed.

Museums and cultural attractions

The Elektrėnai Regional Museum has been housed in the restored Abromiškės granary since 1 January 2024. It displays a unique collection of sculptures by folk artist Ipolitas Užkurnys (1926–2004). A visit to the museum therefore combines a setting in a historic manor landscape with works by a Lithuanian artist.

Another aspect of local cultural history is ice hockey: the Ice Hockey Museum traces the construction of the ice arena and displays numerous trophies won by Elektrėnai teams; it has been open since 2014. In Vievis, you can take guided tours at the Earth’s Interior Information Centre, but you must register in advance. There is also an interactive, modern, technology-based educational and cultural offering for Lithuanian and international users, providing information about significant and unique cultural heritage sites in Elektrėnai Municipality.
