Island Castle and Lake Galvė
An exhibition of the Trakai History Museum has been housed in the central building of Trakai Island Castle since 1962. Visitors can explore the old castle and view exhibits there. Other activities take centre stage on scenic Lake Galvė: water tourists and divers use the lake, while rowing and sailing teams train and compete there. Visitors can circumnavigate the castle on stand-up paddleboards. Water tourism offerings may change; check availability in advance if you plan to make the SUP circuit a key part of your visit.
Trails and history in Senieji Trakai
The “Vytautas the Great” Trail runs between Trakai and Senieji Trakai. The route, which opened to the public in 2000, has nine stations and nine wayside shrines commemorating important events and achievements in the life of Vytautas the Great. Senieji Trakai offers another historical point of interest: the monastery was built in the early 15th century during the time of Vytautas the Great and is open to visitors. While the trail recalls his life, the monastery is a historic building in its own right. Senieji Trakai was also granted the status of an archaeological protection area.
Užutrakis: manor house and lakeside park
The restored Užutrakis Manor House and park ensemble is located on the shore of Lake Galvė. The 80-hectare park is laid out in a mixed style and includes more than 20 artificial ponds. Together, the manor house and landscaped grounds are among the main places to visit in Užutrakis. Visitors to the manor house must travel along the old “Potato Road.” As access conditions may change, check the latest information before your visit.
Nature trail and regional culture
The Varnikai Ecotourism Trail has three viewing points and ten rest areas. This means the trail includes both observation points and places to take a break. Daniliškės offers a different cultural focus: its Old Believer community was established in the 18th century and is the oldest community of its kind in the Vilnius region. Together, these places offer a range of interests, from nature experiences along the trail to a distinctive historical and cultural heritage.
