Culture

The homestead is one of the few surviving examples of the wooden architecture of Lithuania Minor and preserves an authentic ensemble of buildings, courtyards, greenery, and decorative elements. The J. Genys Windmill Exhibition in Agluonėnai invites children, school students, and adults to educational activities that provide an interactive introduction to the history of windmills, the traditional culture of grain milling, and the heritage of Lithuania Minor.

In the Lietuvininkai Oak Grove in Agluonėnai stands a monument created by J. Čepas and artists from the Klaipėda region in memory of the inhabitants of Lithuania Minor, the Lietuvininkai. It consists of an arch and an oak-leaf-shaped tomb sculpture; at a plein-air event held in the same year, further krikštai were created in memory of R. Kant, K. Donelaitis, M. Mažvydas, L. Rėza, Vydūnas, and I. Simonaitytė.

Traditional Joninės celebrations take place in Agluonėnų Park. On national and other holidays, a fire altar is lit there, and Lithuanian and Lithuania Minor folk songs are performed by the “Agluona” folklore ensemble.

History

Agluonėnai is a former typical village of Lithuania Minor on the banks of the Agluona Stream, first mentioned in 1540. Agluonėnų Park was established as a village recreation area after a dam was built on the Agluona River in 1988.

Trails

The “Kalbos kelias” language trail comprises 25 objects and begins in Agluonėnų Park at the monument to the Lietuvininkai and the “Time Snail,” which features memorial signs commemorating people and events. The language trail through the surroundings of Agluonėnai and Dovilai is described as an easy route measuring 38 km and taking approximately three hours; it includes sections on asphalt, gravel roads, and forest tracks.

At the entrances to Agluonėnų Park is a fish pass for salmon built in 1988, described as the first and longest in the country.
