Culture
Latežeris is described as an architectural monument. The settlement is a spontaneously developed linear village whose buildings and farmsteads are arranged irregularly. Valuable buildings made from round or hewn timber, dating from the mid-19th century to the first half of the 20th century, have been preserved. An exhibition of wood carvings is located in the centre of Latežeris village. Antanas Česnulis’ sculpture park in the village of Naujasodė offers walks among wooden sculptures, a windmill, a Rūpintojėlių wall and figures from Lithuanian folklore.
History
Latežeris was first mentioned in 1820. The settlement developed from two farmsteads established in a state forest in 1812–1814. The wooden sculptures near Latežeris are connected with legends about the great flood of the Ratnyčia River in 1841.
The Latežeris partisan bunker is located on the bank of the Ratnyčia stream. It was built in 1947 by Pranas Suraučius-Ąžuolinis, Bronius Kukauskas-Kiškis and Bronius Sinkevičius-Paukštis. The Latežeris partisan bunker was rebuilt in 1997 and again in 2004.
Geographical Location
Lake Latežeris is included in the municipal schedule for water quality sampling in 2026. The pier at the Latežeris campsite has been adapted for people with disabilities. The Latežeris campsite has two pavilions, four sets of forest furniture, a pier, a changing room and two fire pits.
On the route from Druskininkai to Latežeris, turn into Latežerio gatvė, cross Kauno plentas, the A4 road from Vilnius to Gardinas, and then continue towards Latežeris.
