In the 13th century, Kernavė was one of the first centers of the Lithuanian state.

The Kernavė State Cultural Reserve covers 194.4 hectares and includes 18 state-protected cultural heritage sites as well as an archaeology and history museum.

The collections of the archaeology and history museum are based on archaeological research from the reserve and the Kernavė area and showcase all stages of Lithuania’s prehistory.

Kernavė is a small town on the right bank of the Neris, 35 km from Vilnius.
