Geographical location
The old village of Giluičiai lies on the shore of Lake Giluitis, about 3 km west of Simnas.
Culture
Many historical and archaeological monuments have been identified within the boundaries of the village of Giluičiai. The Giluičiai archaeological settlement has a cultural layer up to 1.3 m thick. Striped, coarse and smooth pottery forms have been found there. Human bones and ancient artefacts were also uncovered during gravel extraction in the fields of Giluičiai.
Landscape
The Giluičiai hillfort is located on a spur of the Giluičiai Heights, on the left bank of the Kriaušys stream. Its slopes are up to 10 m high. The hillfort dates from the 1st millennium to the beginning of the 2nd millennium.
Getting there
The hillfort is difficult to find. From the Simnas–Kalvarija road, it can be reached by turning towards Šarkiškiai at the Giluičiai junction.
Nature
There is a beach at Lake Giluitis where campers can stay overnight.
