Kaziukas 2009

At the first weekend of March Vilnius and other cities of Lithuania celebrate a holiday “Kaziukas”. This year the holiday will be held since the 7th of March till the 8th of March 2009. Kaziukas is similar to many mass bally show processions of the Europe; however in Lithuania taking into consideration the local temperament and weather conditions they are a little bit more reserved. But even they are really very interesting to every tourist, so the tourists in no circumstances should pass this significant event. What concerns the current holiday it will pass brightly and interesting as well as it was all the previous years. However there are some problems with the organization of it because of the economic crisis. So it is still not clear who will be the organizer of traditional Kaziukas fair. The permanent organizer businessman Vityanis Urba, who has been engaged in the organization of fair for 8 years, has refused of the participation in this action this year in connection with the funding gap.

Among the other changes it is necessary to mention the appearance of the real ancient carriages in Vilnius; this novelty will just be in operation since the 7th of March. The carriages will constant make trips at the weekends, their route within Kaziukas fair period will be the following: from the former shop “The children's world” up to the Seym, and also from the Cathedral Square till the district “Timo”.

For the first time the territory of the fair will consist of 4 zones so that the traditional crafts could be presented at the best places. One more novelty: this year not only handicraftsmen will sale their production, but also economic executive as well.
