History and culture

Kėdainiai was first mentioned in 1372 and was already described as a city in the 15th century. In 1590, Kėdainiai received Magdeburg city rights. The city was a center of the Reformation in Lithuania and still has a Protestant church today. Kėdainiai is described as one of the oldest urban settlements in Lithuania.
