Lithuania plans to attract workers from Eastern European countries
Against the backdrop of labor migration to the West, Lithuania plans to attract skilled workers from non-EU countries, while avoiding its obligations to the EU on this issue. The decision was made at a government meeting in December. Now, if an organization cannot find the workers it needs, it can recruit them from abroad.

Priority will be given to highly qualified workers from the former Soviet republics: Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, and the countries of the South Caucasus. These workers can obtain the necessary work documents within 3–4 weeks, while qualified workers in short supply at companies can obtain the documents in no more than 2 months.
The possibility is also being considered of allowing these workers to look for work in Lithuania for 3 months after their employment contracts have ended.
Lithuanian language courses are planned for these workers. They will thus take part in an integration program.
