Lithuanians will be able to travel to the United States without visas
Lithuania and the United States have completed signing the package of documents that allows Lithuanian citizens to enter the United States without visas. The final agreement in the package, which provides for cooperation between the countries in preventing and combating serious crimes, was signed on October 28 by Lithuania’s Minister of the Interior, Regimantas Čiupailo, and the U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania, John Cloud.

Under the agreement, the visa-free travel arrangement between Lithuania and the United States will take effect on November 17. Among other things, it allows Lithuanian citizens to cross the U.S. border without a visa upon presenting a biometric passport. Lithuanians may stay in the United States for up to 90 days. Lithuania opened its borders to U.S. citizens 12 years ago. Since then, U.S. authorities have repeatedly promised Lithuania that visa-free travel would be introduced for Lithuanian citizens. However, the decision to sign the agreement with Lithuania was announced only in mid-October, during a reception for ambassadors from the countries that had recently joined the EU, held at the U.S. president’s residence. It should be noted that visa-free travel does not apply to Lithuanians planning to travel to the United States to study or work. These citizens will still have to obtain a visa.
