Nature
In the surroundings of Verduliukai, the Rėkyvos Botanical-Zoological Reserve protects the complex of peatlands and wetlands around Lake Rėkyvos, with its characteristic flora and fauna. The part of the “Rėkyvos pelkė” area located outside the Rėkyvos Botanical-Zoological Reserve also extends into the territory of Verduliukai.
The River Vijolė rises in the area of Lake Rėkyvos, where the Verduliukų aukštapelkė raised bog is located. The Verduliukų aukštapelkė raised bog is designated as the source area of the River Vijolė. From Verduliukai, the River Vijolė flows northwards towards Tilžės gatvė and joins the Kulpė near Sutkūnai.
The part of the “Rėkyvos pelkė” area that includes Verduliukai contains four habitat types of Community interest: degraded raised bogs (7120; 49.87 ha), transition mires and quaking bogs (7140; 4.87 ha), Fennoscandian deciduous swamp woods (9080; 5.87 ha) and bog woodland (91D0; 33.52 ha). This part is home to the protected pond bat (Myotis dasycneme; 7.47 ha) and the large white-faced darter (Leucorrhinia pectoralis; 1,198.44 ha); both are listed in Annex II to Directive 92/43/EEC of 21 May 1992.
Culture
The Rėkyvos Cultural Centre is located on the site of the former Rėkyvos Manor Estate; its main hall has been set up in a former farm building of the manor. In the surroundings of Verduliukai, visitors can see authentic architectural details at the Rėkyvos Manor Estate and learn about the Karpiai family and the history of the area.
In the surroundings of Verduliukai, the history of the Rėkyvos Manor Estate begins in 1605. The Rėkyvos Manor Estate includes a reconstructed former smithy chapel dating from 1935. The estate also includes farm buildings and a fragmentarily preserved park with old avenues.
Water and Routes
The “Pietinio kronikos prieš 100 metų” cycling trip includes Verduliukai as one of the historic villages south of Šiauliai. The trip follows roads and paths, as well as paved and gravel sections.
Kitesurfing takes place on Lake Rėkyvos. Two yacht clubs operate on the shore of the lake. In the surroundings of Verduliukai, Lake Rėkyvos has a wooden bridge with an observation platform.
In the surroundings of Verduliukai, Lake Rėkyvos is the tenth-largest lake in Lithuania and has a sandy beach. The forests and peatlands around Lake Rėkyvos attract numerous berry and mushroom pickers.
