Scorpions Farewell Concert in Vilnius
An era is coming to an end. The Scorpions’ gig in Vilnius on 30 May 2011 will almost certainly be their last live show in Lithuania. The rock giants have always had a special connection with the Baltic country. The concert at the Siemens Arena in Vilnius is sure to be an emotional, yet truly spectacular, occasion. With heavy hearts but determined to put on a great show, the rock band from Hanover will say goodbye to their Lithuanian fans. There is still a month for the last hopefuls to get their hands on one of the coveted tickets for what is otherwise a sold-out farewell show.
The Scorpions’ farewell concert at the Siemens Arena in Vilnius will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the year. After all, the five musicians from Lower Saxony can look back on a remarkable career that reached its peak especially with the opening of the Eastern Bloc and the concert era that followed.
The band, fronted by Klaus Meine, always loved coming to Lithuania. Any future visits are likely to be private, devoted entirely to vacation. After their farewell, the Scorpions will probably never again take to a stage on a regular basis. Even though the band rocked its way around the world like a whirlwind, there has to be an end eventually. Unlike the Rolling Stones, that time has now come for the Scorpions. In a global farewell tour, they want to bring their loyal fans one last taste of the great atmosphere that defined so many of their concerts in their heyday.
The Scorpions have been on stage since 1965, though not with their original lineup. During this sometimes turbulent period, the band went through no fewer than six drummers. In the 1970s in particular, the band consolidated its success with albums that became milestones. These included Fly to the Rainbow, In Trance, Virgin Killer, Taken by Force and Tokyo Tapes. The following decade saw them embark on one world tour after another, with hardly a break. Fans in Germany, and especially those in the former Eastern Bloc countries, will never forget the Scorpions’ performance at the fall of the Berlin Wall. Their hit “Wind of Change” became the anthem of those momentous days.
Trotz vieler Bühnenjahre beweisen die Scorpions noch immer ihre Qualitäten
