Roxette Concert in Vilnius 2011

On March 14, 2011, Swedish pop giants Roxette will also stop in Lithuania for a concert. The show will take place at Siemens Arena in Vilnius. The duo, especially successful in the 1990s, can look forward to a large fan base there. Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson enjoy particularly strong support in Lithuania and are celebrated not only by nostalgic fans. The conditions are therefore ideal for what is sure to be an atmospheric concert evening in the modern arena. It is an event that holidaymakers and travelers to Lithuania should not miss either.

Roxette are among the biggest names in the business, even after the duo spent several years out of the spotlight. Their hits remain staples on radio stations and are still popular not only in Germany and their homeland. Per Gessle had already made his way into the musical elite before Roxette was formed. Even then, he was a highly respected musician in Scandinavia. Marie Fredriksson, too, had already been named Sweden’s Singer of the Year three times before Roxette formed in 1986. But it was only when these two exceptional musicians joined forces that they achieved worldwide success. That success did not come overnight, however, but through an almost unbelievable coincidence. Roxette found at least national success in Sweden with their debut album, but remained largely unknown internationally until 1989. It was only after an American tourist happened to pass a Roxette record he had bought in Sweden to a US radio station that the two musicians managed to gain a foothold in the global music business. Their first hit, “The Look,” is still sung along to loudly by fans everywhere. In the 1990s, Marie Fredriksson and her partner continued their success without missing a beat. The duo suffered a setback only in 2001, when the singer had to take several years off because of a brain tumor. Now, having recovered from her illness, the musicians of Roxette returned to the stage in fine form a year ago. As part of Nokia Night of the Proms, the Swedes gave a total of 20 concerts in Germany. Now they are embarking on their own tour after the break. Their visit to Vilnius is certainly a real highlight.
