Holidays in Palanga, Lithuania

Lithuania is also becoming an appealing holiday destination for tourists from other countries. With its temperate climate, warm summers, beautiful beaches, and the unique flora and fauna of the Curonian Lagoon and the Curonian Spit, Lithuania has plenty to offer holidaymakers. The seaside resort of Palanga is a particularly worthwhile destination.

Holidays in Palanga: sun, beach and sea

With a population of around 18,000, Palanga is Lithuania’s best-known holiday resort and spa town, and the most popular among Lithuanians. Its long, white sandy beaches with gently rolling dunes, clear, clean air, and dense, fragrant pine forests have helped attract more than 3 million tourists and spa patients to Palanga.

Palanga was designated a spa town towards the end of the 19th century. The Tiskevicius family of counts, who resided in Palanga at the time, played a major role in its development as a spa and holiday resort. At their initiative, a botanical garden, a palace, and the famous Amber Museum were built in Palanga. The port was also built on the count’s orders, and Palanga’s first spa centres and sanatoriums date from this period as well. Today, the sanatoriums and spa clinics in Palanga specialise mainly in diseases of the kidneys, urinary tract and respiratory organs, as well as metabolic disorders.

In recent years, substantial investment has gone into Palanga’s tourist infrastructure. The town has ample accommodation for visitors, including a range of hotels, guesthouses, holiday apartments and holiday homes. In addition to places to stay, holidaymakers will find a good selection of cafés, bars, restaurants, discos, nightclubs and casinos in the spa town of Palanga. Along with the resorts on the Curonian Spit, Palanga is one of Lithuania’s most important tourism centres. Its attractive seafront promenade and pier, Palanga Airport, and the town’s sanatoriums and spa centres all contribute significantly to its appeal.Palanga
